Chandigarh’s HR88B 8888 may become India’s costliest vehicle number after record bid
A VIP registration number in Chandigarh has drawn a record bid of more than Rs 1.1 crore with HR88B 8888 now set to become one of the most expensive vehicle numbers ever sold in India. The figure marks a new high for fancy number auctions in the country.
The latest registration number auction conducted by the Registration and Licensing Authority in Chandigarh witnessed an unprecedented response when the HR88B 8888 number attracted a bid crossing Rs 1.1 crore. The amount stunned officials and bidders alike since it far surpassed typical bids placed for premium numbers in the region.
The HR88B series was opened for public bidding and drew strong interest due to its combination of repeating digits which are considered highly auspicious among many buyers. Numbers ending in 8 or containing multiple 8s often command premium prices in auctions because they are associated with prosperity and good fortune.
Officials stated that the final confirmation of the bid will be completed after payment procedures. Once processed, HR88B 8888 will likely become one of the costliest vehicle registration numbers in the country. For comparison, earlier auctions for similar repeating digit numbers had crossed the Rs 50 lakh mark but never approached the current figure.
The record breaking response highlights how demand for exclusive vehicle numbers continues to grow in India. Wealthy buyers often compete intensely for such unique combinations to enhance the identity of their high-end vehicles. The Chandigarh RLA is expected to release full details of the auction list soon.
