UIDAI launches new app feature allowing Aadhaar mobile number update without visiting centres
UIDAI has rolled out a new feature in its official app that allows users to update their Aadhaar linked mobile number from home. This removes the need to visit enrolment centres and makes one of the most requested Aadhaar services far more convenient.
In a major step toward improving digital access, the Unique Identification Authority of India has introduced an app based option for updating mobile numbers linked to Aadhaar. Until now users were required to visit authorised Aadhaar enrolment centres for this service. The new update streamlines the process and significantly reduces the time and effort involved.
According to officials, the feature has been added to the official UIDAI app which enables individuals to verify their identity through secure authentication before updating their contact information. The app guides users through a simple process that includes identity verification, entering the new mobile number and confirming the update request.
This move comes in response to the large number of requests UIDAI receives for mobile number changes each year. Since the linked mobile number is required for OTP based authentication, DigiLocker access, government subsidies and online Aadhaar services, ensuring that it is accurate and up to date is essential.
The new feature is expected to benefit millions of residents especially those who find it difficult to travel to enrolment centres. It also aligns with the government’s broader digital governance goals aimed at making essential services more user friendly.
Users can now complete the update in a few minutes through their smartphones. The authority has advised individuals to ensure accurate details and complete verification steps carefully to avoid delays. As Aadhaar continues to play a key role in identity based services the added flexibility is likely to be welcomed widely across the country.
