Tamil Nadu BJP President Takes Strong Stand Over Anna University Sexual Assault Incident
Tamil Nadu Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President K Annamalai has made a bold vow following the sexual assault of a student at Anna University, Chennai. On December 26, Annamalai announced that he would not wear any footwear until the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government is removed from power in Tamil Nadu. He also declared plans to whip himself six times on December 27 in protest against the handling of the case.
The incident, which occurred on December 23, involved a female student who was allegedly assaulted on the Anna University campus by a biryani seller, identified as Gnanasekaran. Annamalai condemned the Tamil Nadu police for disclosing the victim’s personal details, accusing the authorities of negligence. He called for stricter actions against those responsible for revealing the victim’s identity and criticized the DMK government’s failure to ensure women’s safety.
In a letter to the National Commission for Women (NCW), Annamalai demanded action against those involved in the incident, highlighting the rising crime rates against women under the current administration. He also slammed the DMK for the alleged deterioration of law and order in the state, especially within university campuses, pointing to non-functional CCTV cameras as a sign of poor governance.
The case is currently under investigation, with police arresting the accused and the university cooperating fully with authorities.
