Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt Officially Divorced After Eight-Year Legal Battle
Hollywood’s former power couple Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have finalized their divorce, concluding an eight-year-long legal struggle. Jolie’s lawyer, James Simon, confirmed the news on Monday, stating that the actress is relieved to move forward after years of conflict.
Prolonged Legal Battle
The divorce process involved extensive negotiations, including a settlement conference and mediation sessions under alternative dispute resolution. Both Jolie and Pitt agreed to the conference, while a jury trial was also requested, expected to last 10 to 15 days.
James Simon revealed the toll the lengthy proceedings took on Jolie and her family. “Angelina is tired. Eight years ago, she filed for divorce and abandoned shared property to focus on peace and healing for her children,” Simon stated. Despite the challenges, Jolie has consistently refrained from speaking ill of Pitt publicly or privately.
Seeking Peace and Stability
Jolie has focused on creating a stable environment for her six children—Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, and twins Vivienne and Knox. Simon emphasized that the actress values the legal process and has instilled in her children the importance of law and change. He added, “Angelina is relieved this chapter is over and continues to prioritize peace and stability for her family.”
The Journey from Love to Legal Battles
Jolie and Pitt, who were married on August 23, 2014, at their private French vineyard Chateau Miraval, began their separation when Jolie filed for divorce in September 2016, citing irreconcilable differences. Since then, the couple has been embroiled in disputes over child custody and property division, making their divorce one of Hollywood’s most closely followed cases.
