Free Fire Set for Indian Comeback in 2025 with Exciting Updates
Garena’s popular battle royale game, Free Fire, is poised to make a triumphant return to India after being banned in 2022 under IT Act 69A. The game, which had over 10 million active users at the time of its ban, is now rebranded as Free Fire India and is expected to launch in 2025.
The Journey to Relaunch
The initial ban resulted in the removal of Free Fire from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store, creating a void in India’s gaming landscape. In August 2023, Garena released a teaser announcing the game’s comeback. The company has partnered with former Indian cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni to boost excitement among fans. However, compliance with regulatory requirements delayed the much-anticipated relaunch.
New Features and Indian Aesthetic
Free Fire India promises a fresh experience tailored to Indian players. While the core gameplay remains unchanged, the graphics and in-game elements will feature an Indian aesthetic, with maps and locations designed to resonate with local culture. Players will be able to download the game from both the Google Play Store and Apple App Store upon its release.
Competition with BGMI
The return of Free Fire is expected to shake up the battle royale market in India. Since the 2022 ban, Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) has gained significant traction, benefiting from the absence of its rival. The reintroduction of Free Fire may lead to a fierce competition between the two giants.
Anticipation Grows
Recent job postings on LinkedIn by Garena have fueled speculation about the 2025 launch. In the meantime, Free Fire Max, which was not banned, remains available for Indian users, keeping the fan base engaged.
