Cyclone Ditwah forms over Bay of Bengal and may make landfall along Tamil Nadu coast
A new cyclonic storm named Cyclone Ditwah has formed over the southwest Bay of Bengal and is expected to move toward the Tamil Nadu coast. Weather authorities have warned of heavy rain, gusty winds and rough sea conditions as the system intensifies.
A fresh cyclonic circulation in the southwest Bay of Bengal has strengthened into a cyclonic storm officially named Cyclone Ditwah. Meteorologists reported that the system developed overnight and is now gaining strength while moving in a northwesterly direction. Forecast models indicate that the storm may approach the Tamil Nadu coast, with potential landfall depending on its movement over the next 48 hours.
The India Meteorological Department stated that the storm will continue to intensify due to favourable sea surface temperatures and atmospheric conditions. Coastal districts in Tamil Nadu are expected to experience heavy rainfall, strong winds and high waves. Fishermen have been advised to avoid venturing into the sea since conditions are expected to deteriorate further.
Authorities are monitoring the storm continuously and preparing for any potential impact. Disaster management teams are ready to respond if evacuation or emergency measures become necessary. Local administrations have also begun inspecting vulnerable areas to reduce potential risks.
