India crush South Africa by 101 runs in 1st T20I as Pandya-led all-round show dominates
India demolished South Africa by 101 runs in the first T20I as Hardik Pandya’s explosive 59 not out and clinical bowling by the entire attack sank the visitors for just 74, their lowest-ever total in T20 internationals.
In the opening match of the 2025 T20I series, India put up a commanding performance against South Africa at Barabati Stadium, Cuttack. Batting first, India scored 175 for 6, thanks to a blazing 59* off 28 balls from Hardik Pandya. Pandya’s counterattacking knock came when India had lost early wickets, and his aggressive approach helped India post a competitive total.
When South Africa came out to chase, they were completely undone by India’s relentless and balanced bowling attack. All six Indian bowlers picked up wickets as they skittled the visitors out for only 74 in 12.3 overs — the lowest total they have ever managed in a T20I chase. Arshdeep Singh (2/14), Jasprit Bumrah (2/17), Axar Patel (2/7) and Varun Chakravarthy (2/19) led the demolition, while Pandya also chipped in with a wicket.
The comprehensive victory gave India a 1-0 lead in the five-match T20I series and served as a statement win ahead of the upcoming T20 World Cup preparations. Hardik Pandya was named Player of the Match for his all-round impact.
