CWI Announces Leadership Expansion for Sammy
Cricket West Indies (CWI) has confirmed that two-time T20 World Cup champion Daren Sammy will take over as the head coach of the West Indies cricket team across all formats starting April 1, 2025. Sammy, currently leading the white-ball coaching role, will also oversee the Test format. The announcement was made by CWI Director of Cricket Miles Bascombe during a quarterly press conference in St. Vincent.
Sammy Expresses Gratitude and Excitement
Reacting to the announcement, Sammy expressed his honor and enthusiasm for the expanded role. “It’s an honor to represent the West Indies in any capacity. With this new role, I’m excited about the added responsibility and the journey ahead,” he stated. Sammy’s tenure as white-ball coach since 2023 has seen notable successes, including a recent 3-0 home ODI series win against Bangladesh and a 2-1 series victory over England.
Proven Record and Expectations
Under Sammy’s guidance, West Indies have played 28 ODIs, securing 15 wins, and 35 T20Is, winning 20 matches. His leadership is expected to inject further vitality into West Indies cricket as they aim to reclaim their historic dominance across formats.
