
PM Modi Strengthens India-Mauritius Ties, Announces Support for New Parliament Building
During his two-day state visit to Mauritius, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reaffirmed India’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties by announcing cooperation in constructing a new Parliament building for Mauritius. Speaking at a joint press conference with Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam, Modi declared that the two nations had elevated their relationship to an “Enhanced Strategic Partnership.” He described the new Parliament as a “gift from the Mother of Democracy” to Mauritius.
Highlighting the deep-rooted cultural and historical ties between the two countries, Modi emphasized that India and Mauritius are not just connected by the Indian Ocean but also by shared traditions. He reiterated India’s dedication to supporting Mauritius in key sectors such as health, space, and defense.
PM Modi extended his congratulations to the people of Mauritius on their national day, expressing his privilege to be part of the celebrations. His visit also included meetings with prominent leaders, including former Prime Minister Pravind Kumar Jugnauth and opposition leader Georges Pierre Lesjongard. Discussions focused on enhancing cooperation across multiple sectors and reinforcing India’s role as a key development partner for Mauritius.
In a post on social media platform X, PM Modi described his meeting with Jugnauth as “wonderful,” underlining India’s intent to deepen collaboration. Similarly, his discussions with Lesjongard aimed at further strengthening India-Mauritius diplomatic and economic relations.
On Tuesday, PM Modi met with Prime Minister Ramgoolam to review ongoing bilateral projects and explore new avenues for cooperation. He reaffirmed India’s role as a “valued and trusted development partner” and expressed his commitment to advancing the interests of the Global South. Concluding his visit, Modi attended a banquet dinner hosted by Ramgoolam, where he reiterated that the relationship between the two nations transcends boundaries and is aimed at ensuring regional peace and prosperity.
