Yashasvi Jaiswal Shines as India’s Star in World Test Championship 2023-25
India’s young batting sensation Yashasvi Jaiswal has set a new benchmark in the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 cycle. Since his Test debut against the West Indies in July 2023, Jaiswal has become a vital pillar of India’s batting lineup, amassing an impressive 1,798 runs in just 19 matches at an average of 52.88.
Jaiswal holds the distinction of being the only Indian cricketer to play all 19 matches of the WTC 2023-25 cycle. In comparison, Rohit Sharma and Mohammed Siraj are second with 17 appearances each. Other notable contributors, including Virat Kohli (14 matches) and Shubman Gill (16 matches), played fewer games due to personal commitments and rotational policies.
Jaiswal’s performance in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024/25 further solidified his stature as a key player. He emerged as India’s highest scorer in the series, aggregating 391 runs. Reflecting on the series against Australia, Jaiswal shared his learnings on Instagram, promising a stronger comeback despite India’s 3-1 series loss.
This Test cycle marks a departure from India’s prior WTC campaigns, where they reached the finals in the previous two editions but fell short against New Zealand and Australia. This time, South Africa and Australia have secured their spots for the final, with Australia aiming to defend their title.
Jaiswal’s remarkable consistency and ability to handle pressure underscore his potential as the future of Indian cricket. As India looks ahead to upcoming challenges, his development will be crucial in rebuilding their Test dominance.
